Sauerkraut brine forever. In Vancouver, BC there’s a brand that sells sauerkraut brine in a dill pickle flavour; ostensibly this if for your health but as a lifelong pickled-thing fan, I had a hard time following the dosing recommendations. It is delicious! They also (used to?) make sauerkraut flavoured chips and they were *the best!*

I chuckled at "had a hard time following the dosing recommendations" because I relate. That brand looks awesome and now I 'm curious to try sauerkraut chips, two of my favorite foods in one!

Another delightful read on a subject dear to my heart due to having, as I mentioned after your Mustard missive, a dad who worked for HJ Heinz Co. If you like your beans with a 'z' you would have loved the Heinz Baked Beans advertising jingle from the 70s which rang, "Don't be mean with the beans mum, beans means Heinz!" which appeared in print form as: 'Beanz Meanz Heinz!'

I just searched for that jingle on youtube and may have found it, so catchy. I saw some of those "Beanz Meanz Heinz" ads down the rabbit hole and now I appreciate them more!

I discovered prepared pouch beans recently at Target and kind of like them. I’m the only one in my house who will eat beans (except for traditional baked beans).

Cool beans! 🫘😉 Was lovely to learn a little more about you this week. I also take a peek at what others are purchasing at the grocery store - it’s fascinating! Big lip gloss/balm fan over here. Would recommend the Fitglow Beauty Night Serum. Have a wonderful week, xx

As a transplant in Texas, I am told by the locals that beans do not belong in chili. And I think I am liking their style.

I have been "... the person who decided to make chili in the middle of nowhere and knows Walmart has their back." And middle of nowhere means a remote ski area (though ski towns increasingly have nice grocery stores).

I will say though, I grew up in the Southwest and a lot of brands in section 1 are the name brands of the area. la preferida, la costena, goya, and the 5lb bags of dried beans are on almost every shelf in every store in Tucson. I didn't grow up with the Moosewood cookbook, but I did grow up with a Mexican babysitter who fed us black beans every day. #1 could almost be "Beans for those lost in the woods or for those that grew up in the American Southwest or both"

you're making me want to write an issue with fill in the blanks for the categories! I love how personal they can be and seeing how you might look at the same packaging and sort it or explain it completely differently

#2 Grew up on Moosewood. You got me! And no wonder I adore beans.

I’m very intrigued by this morning chocolate drink. Giving up coffee is always so hard, but sometimes I need to do it. This seems like a great swap, actually more like an upgrade.

I will never give-up my Rancho Gordo bean club membership, it’s so valuable and dependable. And I’ll take a road trip just for the purpose of a Rossi sandwich!!! Nothing else compares.
